Common questions
How does Takvim calculate prayer times?
On your phone, from your location, with the widely used PrayTimes algorithm. No internet is needed for the calculation. You can choose from 12 methods: Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura (Makkah), Egyptian, Karachi, ISNA (North America), Diyanet (Türkiye), the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, MUIS (Singapore) and Tehran. Asr can be Standard or Hanafi.
Takvim picks a method and Asr setting for your country when you start, for example Muslim World League with Hanafi Asr in Uzbekistan and Diyanet in Türkiye. Change them in Profile → Prayer times.
Fajr ends at sunrise, so between sunrise and Dhuhr no prayer is “current”.
My times are different from my mosque’s. What should I do?
Mosques use different methods and sometimes add a few minutes of caution. In Profile → Prayer times, try the method your mosque uses, check the Asr setting, and use Manual adjustment to move any prayer by a few minutes. In the far north or south, the High latitude rule decides how Fajr and Isha are found when the night is short.
Also check the place in Profile → Prayer times → Location: the times are for that city.
I don’t get prayer notifications.
Choose a sound for each prayer in Profile → Notifications: Adhan, Sound, Silent or Off. Then check that notifications for Takvim are allowed in your phone’s settings.
- iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Takvim. Focus modes can hold alerts back. iOS lets an app schedule only a limited number of alerts, so Takvim schedules the next few days and tops them up whenever it runs: open it every few days.
- Android: allow notifications and “Alarms & reminders” for Takvim, so alerts come right on time. If they arrive late, turn off battery optimisation for Takvim.
How do backup and sync work?
Every copy of Takvim backs up your prayer log, qada, habits, plans and settings to your account automatically, even as a guest. To use the same data on another phone, sign in with Google, Apple (iPhone) or your phone number in Profile → Create account to sync. Signing in keeps everything you recorded as a guest.
On the new phone, install Takvim and sign in the same way; your data comes back in a few seconds. A guest backup can only be opened on the phone that made it, so sign in before you switch phones.
How does phone sign-in work? Does it cost anything?
Takvim shows a service number and a short code. You send that code by SMS from the phone number you want to sign in with, and the number it comes from becomes your account; there is nothing to type. Your carrier charges its usual rate for one SMS. Takvim itself is free.
How does qada work?
Qada counts itself: every prayer you mark as missed adds one to your qada for that prayer, and every make-up you log takes one off. You will find the totals in Insights.
Can I export my data?
Yes: Profile → Export data (CSV) creates a spreadsheet file of your prayer log, qada, habits and plans that you can save or share.
How do I change the language?
Profile → Preferences → Language. Takvim speaks English, Русский, Türkçe, Ўзбекча and O‘zbekcha.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile → Account → Delete account & data (or, as a guest, Profile → Erase guest data). Without the app, email us. Step-by-step instructions are on Delete your account.
